Understanding Traffic
Simple ways to read your numbers and decide what to do.
Normal Ranges (local advisory sites)
- New sites: 10–50 visitors/month is fine.
- Established: 100–500+ visitors/month.
- Marketing active: 500+ visitors/month.
Don’t compare to national firms; local audiences are smaller and more qualified.
What Matters
- Trending up over time = good.
- Visits to the Contact page = they’re considering reaching out.
- Multiple pages per visit = they’re exploring.
- Return visitors = they remember you.
Traffic Sources in Plain Words
- Direct: typed your URL or bookmark (cards, email signatures, word of mouth).
- Search: found you on Google. To grow: post occasionally, use clear titles, include your city/state.
- Referral: clicked from another site (LinkedIn, directories, partners, news).
- Social: clicked from social posts (LinkedIn is usually best here).
Quick Actions
- High bounce? Tighten your homepage headline and buttons; make the next step obvious.
- No Contact page visits? Add clearer calls to action and contact buttons.
- One page is popular? Add related links and a CTA on that page.
Keep Perspective
- One good lead beats big traffic.
- Check weekly or monthly, then act (update a page, publish a short post, or simplify a CTA).
